VOLCANIC DYNAMIC

These paintings are based on digital drawings I made using a viewfinder prototype I designed with eye-tracking hardware and open-source software. I tracked the path of my eyes while looking through the viewfinder en plein air outside of Sunset Crater Volcano in Arizona. The color palette comes from golden grasses and volcanic rock. Drawing with eye-tracking technology has generated surprising and exciting abstractions. As Paul Cezanne said, “Painting from nature is not copying the object; it is realizing one’s sensations.”
